I was asked by a father about a year ago to give advice to his son on a momentous occasion in the son’s life. The father had picked a group of Christians who had served the Lord for many years in various capacities to write to the young Christian man. The following quote, with a couple of grammatical alterations, is how I closed my letter to him.

My final recommendation to you is this: know that God has not changed from beginning. Realize what happened at the beginning was perfect. Man’s actions that followed, however, led to the fall of man and all its ramifications. This is objective truth and not a myth. If creation did not happen as plainly written, if Adam and Eve were a myth, if the Fall is a myth, then there is no reason to be saved and salvation through Christ is a delusion. No wonder, then, that a young earth and what happened at the beginning is now rejected by most institutions. God of the Bible is deleted from both the origins of universe and as having any bearing on the conduct of man. In general, the biblical view, which includes an unchangeable and fully accurate assessing God is considered foolishness.
The largest departure of the faith among young people is about these issues. Therefore, be wise, and know the answers. We teach biblical creation and its ramifications because the delusion that it all happened by itself (naturalism or evolution) appears to be sewn up. When you realize the truth of the Creator, however, you are empowered to speak to the lost, especially the young and the needy, without reservation because you can clearly and confidently maintain that God formed them before they were born and knew their frailty. That is why Jesus Christ is the one and only Savior for their souls. No one taught this to me as a new Christian, and rarely did I ever hear it taught. Now I train pastors as well as teachers who uphold the God of the Bible, the One that is unchangeable and had recorded what happened at the beginning. Our sinful natures, stemming from what happened at the beginning, is why He needed to die on the cross and be raised from the dead.
Science is not our enemy; He made us to be inquisitive and study what He created. Increasing evidence shows the power, wonder, and complexity of His creation as well as our fallen state because of sin. But, don’t be fooled by the falsehood that the “science” of origins is true. The Word is true. Apologetics starts with defending what happened at the beginning – as it is written. Science, real empirical science, affirms His works.
For thus says the Lord, who created the heavens (he is God!), who formed the earth and made it (he established it; he did not create it to be empty. He formed to be inhabited!): I am the Lord, and there is no other. Isaiah 45:18
